For 5 years I have worked in the Direct Care field, the first 3 with clients who had MR and Autism, the past 2 with those who have a broad range of psychiatric disorders. I am appalled that someone with a demeanor like that of Dr. Vranos is allowed to work with clients in any medical field. It is a professional embarrassment to the hospital and others who work in Orthopedics.
Wonderful
I had acquired a severe hand infection from a puncture wound that was spreading throughout my body traveling right up my arm from the infected hand. I did not realize just how sick I was and the pain was phenomenal. I feel fortunate that Doc. Vranos was working that day I went into the emergency room and I tremble at the thought of what could have occurred had he not been my Doc. I could have lost my hand or worse yet, I could have died. I love Doc. Vranos. As far as I am concerned he's top quality sports medicine and I don't give a damn about his bedside manner which probably stems from an impatience towards naive and stupid people, in which case I concur. So, if your reading this and have need of such expertise as the good Doctor can provide with confidence, this Doc., William Vranos has my vote hands down.
They say that Doc. Vranos has much to be desired in the bedside manner Dep. I want to comment on this bit of info.
I've seen the good Doc. on several occasions, one time it was for severe carpal tunnel in both hands. Doc. Vranos performed both corrective surgeries and I have no complaints in his ability which was absolute and precise. The next time I saw him several years later was for an emergency.
I just had my left knee replaced on 3/27 by Dr. Vranos. He is a very confident surgeon who from the get go, answered questions, assured me I would do well, and continues to be available if I have more questions. He explained the surgery in detail and the work I would need to do for rehab. I am on my way to full recovery and and so thankful for his skill and step by step goals and grounding (reminds me not to over do) at times for this active patient.
I have had a few appointments with Dr. Vranos and he was very patronizing. I left the office feeling worthless. Afterward, giving the situation the benefit of the doubt I did a quick Google search to read patient reviews looking for something positive. What I found were experiences similar to mine. The first page of the Google search also turned up a few news articles which demonstrate that this doctors behaviors appear to stem back at least 12 years. He was suspended from Baystate Franklin Medical Center only to be allowed back if he apologized to a co-worker, attended anger management counseling and resigned as chief of surgery following an incident described in the article. This backed up my thoughts and needless to say I had all my records transferred to another hospital not long afterward.
If you have had a negative experience with Dr. Vranos I recommend filing a grievance or complaint. BMH has a web page discussing how to go about this.
